The speed reading service SpeedReading is the most popular free reading app in Australia and has grown rapidly in recent years.
However, there are still some drawbacks to the app that are making it a poor choice for many.
Read more”Speed reading is a great way to read,” the SpeedReading website says, but many people have trouble finding the time to read through it for longer than two or three hours.
“Some people will read through a lot of different types of content and some of these may not even be the types of things they are looking for,” the website says.
“You might get something from reading about a specific type of subject or topic and then it just doesn’t sit right for you.”
A good reading app is one that can deliver fast reading and it’s important to get your speed reading done quickly and easily, says Tim Smeets, a senior research fellow at the University of New South Wales.
“If you can read it in one hour, you’re doing it right,” he said.
“There are a lot more benefits to reading it over a period of time.”
What’s more, there’s no guarantee the speed reading software will deliver the speed that’s important for your reading and writing speed.
“We know speed reading has been shown to be effective, but there are some issues that come with it,” Mr Smeettes said.
There are some downsides to speed reading apps:The biggest is that there is no guarantee that a speed reading will deliver what you’re looking for, Mr Smedts said.
The speed reader has a different interface to a regular app, which means it may not be as easy to read for those with reading problems.
The other major drawback is that the app does not have the same quality as a real-time reading app.
“A speed reader is very different to a real time reader, so there are no guarantees it will deliver all the things you want,” Mr Smith said.
